Carlow County Council today (20 Janurary) announced the closure of L-3052 Tinryland, Co. Carlow between its junctions from the L1023 and L1022 from 19 January to 23 February 2026 to facilitate an Uisce Éireann wastewater infrastructure upgrade in the area.

The existing Tinryland Wastewater Treatment Plant is no longer adequate to meet the needs of future growth in Tinryland and surrounding area. The new project involves constructing a new wastewater pumping station, which will pump flows to the Carlow (Mortarstown) Wastewater Treatment Plant for full treatment. These upgrades will ensure environmental compliance and protect local water quality into the future. It will also create a robust wastewater network so that the community can continue to grow and develop. It is one of several water and wastewater projects happening in Carlow that are improving capacity for development.

The works are expected to have no impact on water supply for residents in the area. There will however be a ‘stop/go’ affecting traffic on the N80 in the next couple of weeks. Uisce Éireann described it as a minor inconvenience to enable a bigger, positive project for Tinryland. The water service said they will regularly update the community about the works and will have a community liaison on site during construction.

Shareridge will carry out the works, which have an estimated completion date in 2027, on behalf of Uisce Éireann.

David Shalloo, portfolio manager with Uisce Éireann, thanked the community in advance for their co-operation and asked for their patience while they complete the upgrades.
