UPDATED: Woman killed and two men injured near Fighting Cocks

Gardaí are investigating the collision that occurred at approximately 5.50pm in Ballintrane
A woman who died in Co Carlow following a collision between a car and van along a notorious road blackspot on Monday night is a Tipperary native.
The two men from Co Wexford who were travelling in the van along N80 in the towns land of Ballintrane, close to the village of Ballon, were airlifted to two hospitals in Dublin in a serious condition.
The collision occurred at 6.51pm on Monday in Ballintrane close to the Fighting Cocks restaurant and pub.
The woman aged 33, who was the driver of an Audi A4 car was treated by emergency services at the scene, but passed away from her injuries.
The two men, one aged 34 is in the Mater Hospital is now in a stable condition following surgery and the other aged 45 was taken to Tallaght Hospital where he remains. The men were travelling in a Mercedes van.
Newly elected cllr Ben Ward who is from the area has expressed a sense of shock, upset and also annoyance at “yet another accident on the N80”.
The road has now reopened following an examination by Forensic Collision Investigators. The N80 is the main vehicular artery between the M9 Motorway and Rosslare Euro Port.
Garda Superintendent Anthony Farrell from Carlow Garda Station is appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.
Supt Farrell explained that he and his team of gardaí are focusing on members of the public who may have been using “this part of the roadway around the time of collision between 6.15pm and 7pm”.
He continued: “Motorists may have been travelling towards Carlow or Ballon at the time and might have noticed either vehicle, a White Audi A4 171D or indeed the White Mercedes Vito Van, 172WX.
“They might have dashcam footage, or could have seen either vehicle pass while travelling. If anyone has information to support our garda investigation, please contact Tullow Garda Station on 059-9151222, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.” Just over two weeks ago a motorcyclist was seriously injured following a collision involving a bus along the same stretch of road close to Ballon.
The injured man aged in his 40s has been airlifted to hospital with what are believed to be serious but non life threatening injuries.
The notoriously dangerous stretch of road which has claimed the lives of several people in the past several years.
Earlier this year three young people lost their lives and another man was seriously injured along the N80.
Daryl Culbert, 21, from Kiltegan, Co Wicklow, Katie Graham, 19, from Arles, Co Laois and Michael Kelly, 25, from Nurney, Co Carlow were killed when the red Lexus car they were travelling in left the N80 in the townland of Leagh, less than 10km from Carlow town, and crashed into a tree at around 11.30pm on January 31.
A fourth occupant of the car, a man in his 20s from Ballinabrannagh, Co Carlow, was treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries in Beaumont Hospital.
Carlow County Council in partnership with Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) are to start construction to remove a series of dangerous bends along the N80 at the end of this month.
