Strike at Tullow Credit Union to begin tomorrow

MEMBERS of the Financial Services Union (FSU) at Tullow Credit Union will begin a strike tomorrow morning (Thursday, 3 September) after a request from the FSU for recognition and collective bargaining was denied.
The strikes by FSU members at Tullow Credit Union are due to take place from 9.30am to 1pm on Thursday and Friday this week; Thursday and Friday, 10-11 September; and Thursday and Friday, 17- 18 September.
Members of the FSU in Tullow are seeking collective bargaining recognition on pay and working conditions. Chairperson of the credit union, Tom Keogh, said the employees “benefit from excellent working conditions” and that it is committed to ensuring pay and benefits are “aligned and competitive with the wider sector.”
Despite not recognising its employees’ membership of FSU: “Tullow Credit Union respects the right of every employee to join and be represented by a trade union of their choosing,” said Mr Keogh.
Mr Keogh said Tullow Credit Union will remain open in the coming weeks and there will be no changes to opening hours. However, there will be a reduction in the range of services while the strikes are ongoing.
Essential services will be maintained. It will be possible for customers to make cash lodgements and withdrawals, electronic fund transfers, transfers between credit union accounts, enquire about balances and receive statements and receipts.
External cheque withdrawals, loan drawdowns, new loan applications or lending discussions, new account or membership openings and account closures will not be available during strike hours.
Mr Keogh encouraged credit union members with non-urgent or complex service needs to attend the premises after 1pm on strike days. He also noted that members should allow additional time if attending the premises on days when the strikes are ongoing as waiting times might be longer than usual.
