Gardaí have released a statement in the last few minutes indicating that gardaí in Carlow continue to investigate all circumstances surrounding the discharge of a firearm and the death of a man in his 20s following an incident at Fairgreen Shopping Centre, Carlow, on Sunday 1 June 2025.

"The body of the man has now been removed from the scene and taken to the mortuary in Dublin. A post mortem will be carried out by the State Pathologist tomorrow.

A technical examination of the car park scene has concluded. The scene remains held and the Fairgreen Shopping Centre remains closed," the statement read.

"Gardaí are now in a position to begin releasing cars from the Fairgreen Shopping Centre Car Park to their owners. Access will only be granted to members of the public who left a vehicle in the car park. Gardaí are continuing to appeal for witnesses to this incident".

Anyone present at Fairgreen Shopping Centre between approximately 6:00pm and 6:30pm yesterday evening is asked to contact the incident room at Carlow Garda Station.
