Tullow water upgrade works on schedule

Phase 2 of the project is being carried out at night and should be completed in May
UISCE Éireann is continuing its ongoing works in Tullow town to upgrade the ageing infrastructure and reduce leakage, ensuring a more reliable and sustainable water supply for the community.
The works, which are being carried out under Uisce Éireann’s national leakage reduction programme, involves the replacement of more than 2.1km of ageing water mains, which have been prone to bursting and high levels of leakage, with new modern pipes. The upgrades will significantly reduce water loss, improve pressure and enhance the overall resilience of the water network serving homes and businesses in the area.
Phase one of the project, which involved the installation of 90 metres of pipes on Mill Street, has been completed. Uisce Éireann crews have now moved on to phase two of the works on Bridge Street, where 230 metres of pipes have already been installed.
This phase, which is being carried out at night, is expected to be completed in May, after which work will begin in the Course/Crosskeys area of the town, with stop-and-go traffic management in place.
Dave Murphy, programme manager with Uisce Éireann, said: “We are committed to delivering a more secure and reliable water supply to communities across Ireland. These ongoing works in Tullow town are part of that effort, ensuring fewer disruptions, improved water quality and a network that’s fit for the future.
"We’re delighted with the progress made on this project and would like to thank the people of Tullow for their continued patience and support as these essential works continue. The project remains on track to be completed by September 2025.” F
