Tullow to receive €10,000 for Christmas lighting

TULLOW town is to receive €10,000 to fund its Christmas lights this year after councillors voted in favour of the proposal at the October Tullow Municipal District meeting.

A scheme to allocate funding for the various towns and villages across the county, including the municipal district of Tullow, was devised several months ago and was put into place this month. In the plan, the town of Tullow was given first priority, while villages such as Rathoe and Carrigduff were given second priority. Other areas such as Ardattin and Rathoe weren’t included on the priority list.

Several towns and villages applied for funding, including Rathoe and Ardattin, which were looking for approximately €5,000 and Ballon and Carrigduff, which applied for about €2,000 each.

With only €10,000 available for the entire area, officials proposed that the whole amount went to Tullow town and that the other areas would receive assistance from the council in how to obtain funding from other sources.

The scheme was accepted on the votes of cathaoirleach Brian O'Donoghue along with Will Paton, John Pender and Jim Deane, while Ben Ward and Charlie Murphy voted against the recommendation.
