Tullow parade celebrates 40 years of community spirit

The St Patrick's Day parade in Tullow is celebrating its 40 anniversary this year
THE ST PATRICK’S Day parade in Tullow will celebrate a remarkable milestone this year, marking its 40th parade with an unforgettable display of community pride, creativity and entertainment.
The parade will kick off at 2pm on Monday 17 March from Dublin Road, bringing together businesses, schools, community groups and performers in a spectacular showcase of local talent and tradition. With the theme ‘40 Shades of Green’, participants are encouraged to embrace the vibrancy of Irish culture and heritage in their floats, costumes and performances.
The parade has been a cherished tradition since its inception in 1985, bringing people together in celebration of Irish identity and community spirit. Over the years, it has grown in scale and spectacle, becoming a highlight of the town’s annual calendar.
In 2024, organisers Develop Tullow Association introduced a memorial cup in honour of Simon Ronan, one of the founding members of the parade, who died in 2023. Simon, originally from Wexford, had a vision for a community celebration that would bring people together in joy and unity. His dream became a reality when he spearheaded the first St Patrick’s Day parade in Tullow, inspiring generations to follow in his footsteps.
His enthusiasm and creativity ignited a tradition that continues to thrive and his legacy lives on in the laughter, music and spectacle that fill the streets of Tullow every St Patrick’s Day.
This year promises to be an event for all ages with a mix of music, dance, floats and entertainment that will capture the imagination of spectators. Whether you’re taking part or cheering from the sidelines, put on a green gansaí and join the Tullow crew as they celebrate 40 years, a testament to community spirit, creativity and the power of a shared vision.
Thanks to the generous support of local businesses, the event continues to grow, ensuring that this year’s milestone parade will be bigger and better than ever. Proudly sponsored by Codd Mushrooms as the main sponsor, with Benni’s Takeaway supporting the parade prizes and McDonagh Frayne sponsoring entertainment, this year’s event promises to be one of the best yet.
