TULLOW BNS was one of 30 schools selected nationwide to participate in education minister Norma Foley’s Cinéaltas showcase and best practice event, intending to present how schools can create a positive culture for their pupils.
The event in Croke Park had displays by 30 schools from across Ireland. Each school was given a display place to show their efforts to promote a positive learning environment, designed with posters and leaflets.
Tullow BNS displayed its ‘circle of kindness’ board, a collection of notes by students describing acts of kindness they had seen in themselves or their classmates. The school also presented its code of behaviour system and golden time rewards programme.
Principal Rory Healy, who attended the event alongside three pupils and teacher Caomhín Ó Murchú, said: “Minister Foley was genuinely interested … I was impressed with the time and consideration that she afforded each of the children.”
At the event, teachers and students went from display to display looking at the ideas each school had for promoting positivity and anti-bullying efforts.
They addressed the similar themes across all schools and spoke of working towards the same goals.
