Tributes flood in for young Borris man (20s) who died in car crash

Oisín Martin who tragically died in a car crash on Wednesday morning

TRIBUTES have been flooding for a young man from Borris who died in a car crash on Wednesday morning.

Oisín Martin died when his car crashed between Borris and Goresbridge at around 6.20am on Wednesday.

Aged in his 20s, Oisín was the only son of John Joe and Breda, and was a brother to Emily, Hannah and Rachel.

The close-knit community of Borris is in shock over the tragic news, with tributes being paid on RIP by many of the family’s friends and neighbours including a condolence by Borris College.

He and his family were deeply involved in local sports with Oisín playing for Mount Leinster Rangers while he had also played with Ballymurphy Celtic AFC.

Mount Leinster Rangers paid tribute to Oisín on their Facebook page: ‘It is with profound sadness and heartbreak that we learned today of the tragic passing of our teammate and club member, Oisin, following an accident this morning. Oisin was an outstanding player for our club throughout the juvenile ranks, winning every A Hurling title up to U20 level as a tenacious and skilful defender. One of his proudest achievements came when he played a pivotal role at corner back as part of the team that secured our only A Football Championship title in the u20 final in recent years.

Only last Friday evening, Oisin proudly lined out in the black and red in our Bolger Shield Hurling Semi-Final.

The Martin family have always been a huge part of our club community, with John Joe giving so much through his involvement as a camogie and ladies football coach, and Oisin’s sisters — Hannah, Rachel and Emily — all representing the club with pride.

Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with Breda, John Joe, Hannah, Rachel and Emily, along with Oisin’s extended family, teammates and his many friends during this incredibly difficult time.’ Ballymurphy Celtic AFC said: ‘On behalf of the Club and Community, it is with immense sadness that we offer our deepest and heartfelt condolences to the Martin Family, Tinnecarrig on the recent passing of Oisin.

Oisin played with our Youths and U19s team in recent years and was a great player. He was speedy, tenacious, skilful and always played with a smile on his face. There are simply no more words.’ Funeral arrangements will be announced tomorrow, Friday, afternoon.
