Students to make videos highlighting benefits of shopping local

Gaelcholáiste students will be making Irish language videos asking people to shop local

FOUR secondary school students from Gaelcholáiste Cheatharlach are taking part in Carlow County Council’s ‘Shop Local – Shop Carlow’ campaign. In the lead-up to Christmas, the students will create videos for social media of them visiting their favourite independent businesses and shops across Carlow and interviewing different business owners in Irish.

The four students taking part are Tristan Mac Aodh Bhuí, Conor Ó Raghallaigh, Faith Aogáin and Teegan Nic Eochaidh Ní Ghuaire. The students will work with Carlow County Council to produce the videos.

The campaign is meant to encourage people to support Carlow’s independent retailers this Christmas season by showcasing how shopping local supports real people and families.

Linda Culleton, economic development officer with Carlow County Council, said: “It’s fantastic to see second-level students from Gaelcholáiste Cheatharlach taking an active role in celebrating our local retail community.

“By exploring and promoting local shops through the Irish language, they’re showing how creativity and culture can work hand-in-hand with enterprise. This project builds pride in both our local economy and our linguistic heritage.”

Shop Local – Shop Carlow is a county-wide initiative led by Carlow County Council’s Local Enterprise Office, supported by Creative Ireland, the Student Enterprise Programme, and Content Plan with Carlow Chamber and Carlow Tourism.
