AN EXHIBITION recognising the talent, hard work and dedication of SETU students was launched recently at the university’s Carlow campus.
Cllr Fergal Browne, then-cathaoirleach of Carlow County Council, launched the SETU Annual Architectural Technology Exhibition and congratulated students who received awards for academic excellence.

“Carlow County Council is very proud of its strong link with the university, the great benefits from this link and the growth of Carlow and SETU and in particular the link with the architectural technology degree programmes,” said cllr Browne.
“Carlow prides itself on its strong higher education base; SETU and Carlow College have been a substantial catalyst for economic development,” he said.
“SETU plays a critical role in addressing workforce skills and is an active collaborator with industry and ensures students are industry-ready upon graduation, with good networking prospects.”
Carlow County Council supports the work placement module of the programme. Cllr Browne also presented the award for Student of the Year to Chloe Deacon and Highly Commended award to Sorcha Gartland – both students successfully completed work placements with Carlow County Council.
The awards were sponsored by K Design Studio, an architectural firm in Kilkenny.
Margaret Doyle Hughes, lecturer and programme director, said the annual Architectural Technology Exhibition allows SETU to display the hard work of all its students from year one to four.
“SETU’s architectural technology courses provide learners with the opportunity to create inventive solutions to a range of architectural buildings and to explore new ideas and advanced technical solutions while implementing the key principles of sustainable building design,” she said.
“The exhibition also demonstrates the high calibre of our students’ work and gives a taste of the undoubted success of their future careers in industry.”
The exhibition, marking the end of the academic year, recognised the talent, hard work and dedication of students on the Bachelor of Science (Honours) Architectural Technology and the Bachelor of Science Architectural Technology courses.
The event displayed the students’ studio work, which included hand-drawn elements, scale models, virtual reality and Revit drawings.
