A CARLOW student who dreamed about becoming an engineer when he was just a youngster growing up in Nepal is about to realise that dream after scoring maximum points in the leaving cert.

Sagar Sapkota, a graduate of St Mary’s Academy CBS, was over the moon when he discovered that he scored 625 points in the state exam.

His amazing leaving cert results will be his passport to studying engineering in Dublin City University, a career path that he has been dreaming of since he was a child.

Sagar is only 17 years’ old but is looking forward to the next chapter in his already interesting life.

Sagar was born in Nepal and was educated in Askea Boys National School before embarking on his second-level education in St Mary’s Academy CBS. His ambition to become an engineer has been unwavering since his young days growing up in Nepal on the family farm.

With his grandfather, he learned to divert water to nurture rice fields, harness electricity and to apply many problem-solving techniques to make things work.

Sagar looks forward to securing a place in DCU to study mechatronics.

“In the CBS, teachers want the very best for you. They know and understand the needs of students and challenge us to the very best we can be.

"I will miss my friends and the staff but look forward to the next chapter in my educational journey,” said Sagar.

“Sagar is a superstar and is such a lovely person. He has it all, the whole package,” principal Fiona Lennon told The Nationalist.

“The results of our leaving cert class of 2024 are outstanding – a testament to the dedication and perseverance of our students, the expertise of our teaching staff and special needs assistants, and the support of our parents/guardians and entire school community," said Ms Lennon.
"We are delighted to see our students excel and move on to the next exciting chapter of their lives."
