CARLOW Co Council has launched its new strategic arts development plan, Arts for a flourishing Carlow, where it set out its intentions for the coming year.

The launch was hosted by Carlow Arts Office in the town hall, while local performance artist Cian Kinsella was MC for the night. Guests, artists and arts organisations gathered for refreshments, networking and entertainment by Music Generation Carlow performers, alongside the formal launch proceedings by cathaoirleach Ken Murnane and Katie Lowery from the Arts Council of Ireland.

Cllr Murnane said: “Co Carlow is home to an artistically vibrant and rich community. Looking ahead to the next decade, Carlow Co Council’s focus remains on strengthening strategic partnerships through sustained funding and deepened engagement with national resource agencies.

"At a local level, we will continue to nurture the networks between artists, cultural organisations and community groups that drive innovation and inclusion. This collaborative spirit is what allows the arts to flourish in our county.”

A highlight of the evening was the Music Generation ensemble showcase, where young singers, traditional, brass and rock musicians all joined forces in a rousing rendition of Killeagh by Kingfishr.

Arts officer and Creative Ireland co-ordinator Aileen Nolan said: “ Arts for a flourishing Carlow is more than just a document ‒ it is a roadmap for growth, inclusion and leadership in the arts. It reflects the unique energy, creativity and community spirit that defines Co Carlow.

“Our vision for the next decade is built on three core strategic pillars. Firstly, nurturing artistic talent and practice. Secondly, championing place-based arts practice by engaging communities and cultivating audiences. And thirdly, strengthening leadership and sustainability. We will work to integrate the arts into the growth of our county through leadership, partnership, collaboration and effective resource management.”

Aileen also said that the Arts Office would continue to invest in the arts as a key part of what makes the county a great place to live, study, work, visit and belong. She continued that Carlow Arts Office is committed to making the arts accessible to all, ensuring that creativity can thrive in every corner of Carlow.
