St Mullins couple to appear on RTÉ’s Great House Revival

comes to St Mullins, Carlow this Sunday 23 March at 9.30pm on RTÉ 1, where one of Ireland’s most influential designers Hugh Wallace meets Carlow man Tommy McDonald and his partner Emily Lewis.St Mullins native Tommy has dreamed of restoring a cloghan of cottages down the lane from his family home since he was a child. Tommy and Emily Lewis to transform the ruinous property into their first home with Hugh’s help.
With a €250,000 budget to restore an 1800’s farmhouse in ruins and a set of old sheds, the young couple began their first restoration project on episode 7 of the TV show.
Tommy's building experience goes no further than doing up a camper van, but he takes on the project himself to cut costs, learning on the job. His lack of experience coupled with months of bad weather slows progress way beyond the planned timeline.
Tommy and Emily are determined to renovate the farmhouse under their €250,000 budget, but with the arrival of their first child, budget restrictions and grant deadlines, the project might be more than they bargained for.
