A GROUP of fourth-year PR and media students at SETU held a talent show at The Barracks in Carlow on 19 November as part of the event management module of their degree course.
The four students, Raveli Kilondra, Daire Harper, Evan Vanderhejiden and Seb Fialkiewicz, were given 12 weeks to organise an event and during this time they had weekly check-ins with their PR and media programme director Greg Murphy. They decided to stage a talent show in aid of the Palestinian Children Relief Fund and Carlow Hospice.
The show had eight acts, including rappers, singers and salsa dancers. After covering their costs, the students raised €630 for their chosen charities.

At the event, the students ran two raffles, one for two signed jerseys which were donated by soccer players Padraig Amond and Daryl Murphy, and another which had a variety of vouchers and goods that were donated by local businesses, including Paddy the Turk Barbers, DM9 coaching, Brooke and Shoals Fragrances, Apache Pizza, Supermac’s, RAV Kaptures, Lavish Studio, Waterlillies, Savannah Boutique, Barbero 27 and Cibo Café.
The event exceeded expectations, with over 70 people attending instead of the expected 40.
Mr Kilondra said of the event: “It went really well – I couldn’t have asked for a better night, to be honest.”
