The mere golf ball has secured Carlow business Seed Golf a chance at winning the National Enterprise Awards at the Mansion House, Dublin in May.

Founded by Dean Klatt and operating out of an incubator at SETU Carlow, Seed Golf offers a subscription-based service for people to buy tour‑grade golf balls at reasonable prices. The business has rapidly scaled both at home and abroad, with almost half of its sales now coming from international markets.

The winners across five categories at the Carlow County finals were announced on Wednesday 4 March at a ceremony hosted by the Local Enterprise Office (LEO). In addition to Seed Golf’s overall win, Sun Arc Solar Systems won a digital business award, Conway’s Bar & Restaurant won the green business award, HPMP Fire won in the lean business award category and Flying Tumbler Irish Whiskey won the exporting business award.

The event was a culmination of the Local Enterprise Week which took place between 2 and 7 March across the 31 Local Enterprise Offices in Ireland.

Presenting the awards, councillor Ken Murnane, cathaoirleach of Carlow County Council, said the event was “a tribute to the dedication, creativity, and resilience shown by local entrepreneurs. The businesses recognised today are not only strengthening Carlow’s economy but contributing to economic growth across the country.” “We are delighted to have Seed Golf represent Carlow this year,” noted Séamus Doran, organiser of the county final and assistant head of economic development & enterprise at LEO Carlow. “The standard of entries was exceptional, showcasing the energy and strength of our local small business community. While not every finalist could win today, many are on a trajectory that will see them become strong contenders in future years.”
