CLOTHES retail chain Penneys in Carlow town supported two young runners who took on a mammoth jogging task in aid of charity.
Local man Seán Quinlan (23) and friend Scott Gibbons ran four kilometres every four hours over 48 hours to raise funds for Éist Cancer Support Centre, Carlow. Éist aims to provide emotional support and practical help to anyone affected by cancer.

The arduous run took place from 6pm on Friday 18 July to 2pm on Sunday 20 July, involving four alternating jogging routes ‒ Penneys, Éire Óg, Oak Park and Askea.
Running alongside the two men’s task was an organised cyclathon on two spin bikes, which various staff members undertook outside the store on Kennedy Avenue.

Penneys store manager Sandra Quinlan, who is Seán’s aunt, explained why the two men organised the run.
“Seán had wanted to raise money for charity by undertaking a run, so I suggested doing it for Éist, the charity we support. So they decided to do that,” added Ms Quinlan.
“The two had great back-up with the Carlow rugby team running on one of the routes with them, while Seán’s mum Alison ran some of the time with them, while other friends and relatives also took part. In total, they ran more than a marathon and in an effort to sustain themselves they had to eat a lot. What they did was amazing, and once there is a final total, it is hoped that up to €5,000 will be raised.
“The two men were very tired after their massive undertaking but delighted to have achieved so much to support Éist,” Ms Quinlan revealed.
