A MIGHTYILY impressive cavalcade of tractors turned up at Presentation College, Carlow when the ag science department organised a charity tractor run recently.

About 30 tractors of various sizes gathered on the school grounds before setting off on a route that took in Castledermot, Duckett’s Grove and the Hacketstown Road.

This is the third time that ag science teachers Wes Fennell and Janet Bradley organised the run in aid of Éist Cancer Support Services. Even though Presentation College is in Carlow town and has mostly students from the greater urban area, there’s huge interest in the tractor run.

“There’s great interest in it. It went very well and had 30 tractors involved. We’re largely and urban school, but we do have a cohort of students who have an agricultural background or have an interest in it, so it’s good for them to have an opportunity to show off their skills,” said Wes.

There was a new element to this year’s event, because youngsters were invited to bring along their pedal tractors and complete a circuit of their own around the basketball courts. Afterwards they were presented with their own certs as proof that they took part.

Big or small, the tractors and their drivers had a fabulous event and raised an impressive €4,000 for Éist.

“We’re delighted with it. A lot of those taking part were very generous while the businesses who donated to the raffle were generous, too,” said Wes.
