CONGRATULATIONS to the German students in Presentation College, Carlow on scooping the top prize in an international sustainability competition.

The group, mentored by teacher Una Byrne, represented Ireland Ökoscoop, a new competition, organised by the Goethe-Institut in London. This was the first year of the competition and schools in Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales were invited to participate. There were three stages in the competition ‒ the third being a press conference entirely through German.

Presentation College was the only Irish school involved at the final stage.

Initially, students worked through various modules on environmental issues using the GImagine platform. Each team then had to research an environmental issue relevant to their school setting. The Presentation College team was led by Páidí Breen and the team members were Zahin, Rose, Martin and Abyan.
