STUDENTS and teachers in Presentation de la Salle College, Bagenalstown are being given the opportunity of travelling to partner colleges across Europe, thanks to the Erasmus+ programme.

The school celebrated the success of the Erasmus+ programme throughout March, having first been granted funding by Leargas in 2023. The idea behind the programme is for students and teachers to travel to schools in Europe on an educational and cultural basis, on trips called “mobilities”.

Teacher Emma Bolger is the guiding light behind the programme in Presentation de la Salle and is both proud and delighted at how well it’s going there. By the end of this academic year, four groups of students will have visited such counties as France, Spain, Italy and Germany, while the school also played hosts to students from abroad.

One of the mobilities involved 24 students, from first year to sixth year, visiting a school in Germany, to introduce Irish traditional music to their peers there. Another trip saw transition year students living with families in France and Germany, another group to Fougeres, France, with a further trip planned for Pfullendorf, Germany in June.

“We are immensely proud of our accreditation. Not only our students but also staff members have benefited from the programme. Members of our staff have had the opportunity to partake in courses in Italy, Spain, France and Germany and others have gotten the opportunity to travel to Spain and Germany to engage in job shadowing placements – truly enriching experiences for all involved,” said Emma.
