THE atmosphere was just gorgeous when Bosom Buddies Women’s Shed threw a launch party to celebrate moving into their new headquarters. The voluntary group, which only started in Carlow during the summer, got a permanent base in the Fr John Cummins Centre, directly across from the cathedral.

“We’re absolutely delighted with it. There’s plenty of room for our classes, plus some storage for our craft materials. We’ve come a long way in a very short space of time. Flying it,” smiled Sandra Ryan.

Sandra is one of the four founding members of Bosom Buddies along with Lena Douglas, Tanya O’Neill and Connie Seymour. Connie teaches crafts such as felting to club members, while there are also classes such as in wellness or health.

“Connie was showing us how to make little owls from felting this week. I’ve never laughed as much, the craic was ninety,” said Sandra.

“Bosom Buddies is a safe place for women to meet. It’s about women empowering other women and sharing their skills. It’s about women being together, so even if you don’t want to participate in any of the activities, you can just pop in for a chat and a cuppa,” continued Sandra.

Sandra and the crew have plenty of plans for the coming months, including a pink party in October to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
