A THIRTY-FIVE-year-old man with 13 previous convictions, including three for drugs offences, has been sentenced to one month in prison for possession of controlled drugs.

Robbie Brennan appeared before Judge Geraldine Carthy at Carlow District Court via video link, where he was in custody.

The court heard that on 13 June 2025 at 2.05pm, Mr Brennan’s home at Eddington House, New Garden, Athy Rd, Carlow was searched on foot of a warrant. A quantity of drugs for sale or supply was located, including €45 worth of cannabis and €98 worth of Zopiclone, a sleeping pill.

The defendant’s solicitor, Joe Farrell, told the court: “I am familiar with him and the court is familiar with him.”

In mitigation, Mr Farrell said his client had entered a guilty plea and was due out of custody soon. He added that Mr Brennan had “another matter pending”.

The court heard that the defendant’s last conviction was under section 3 of the Misuse of Drugs Act, for which he received a three-month sentence.

Judge Carthy convicted and sentenced Mr Brennan to one month in prison.
