A DYNAMIC new programme has been designed to improve the leadership skills, strategic thinking and business acumen of owner/managers in Carlow and Kilkenny.
Local Enterprise Offices (LEOs) in both counties are launching the Future Focus Management Development series.
This comprehensive series of sessions is meticulously curated to empower local business leaders, fostering growth and innovation in their enterprises. In an era when continuous learning and peer support are paramount, the LEO series will offer insights from leading national speakers, experienced mentors and a supportive network of peers.
Kieran Comerford, head of economic development and enterprise at Carlow County Council, highlighted the programme's significance. "Management development is crucial for any business leader. Learning from your peers and sharing experiences can catalyse growth and foster a collaborative environment that propels businesses forward.”
The course will be delivered over six sessions, with the first one led by Margaret Valette O’Connor, whose masterclass will guide participants through the nuances of building a resilient mindset, leading with authenticity and fostering an empowering workplace culture. Her insights will lay the foundation for participants to unlock their leadership potential. Two weeks later, Susan Hayes Culleton will examine financial strategy. Known as ‘The Positive Economist’, Ms Hayes Culleton will unravel the complexities of financial risk management and strategic planning.
Attendees will explore value-based management and financial modelling, equipping them with the skills to navigate the dynamic financial landscape with confidence. Mastering sales is the theme for the third session with Terry Harmer, who will share secrets of customer acquisition, retention and strategic account management. Through his guidance, attendees will learn to adapt sales approaches for diverse markets.
Session four has a focus on efficiency with John O’Shanahan and he will lead a session on maximising productivity and scaling operations. His extensive experience in lean and digitalisation consulting will provide participants with strategies to optimise processes and technology.
Michelle and John Walshe will lead the penultimate session on succession and exit strategies. This will be useful for leaders planning the long-term viability of their enterprises. They will delve into succession planning, grooming future leaders, selling a business and family succession, ensuring participants are prepared for every eventuality.
The final session, led again by Ms O’Connor, will consolidate what the participants have learned. The course sessions are complemented by mentoring provided to each client.
Aileen McGrath, head of enterprise at Kilkenny County Council, emphasised the value of expert mentorship. “Experts and mentors play a pivotal role in business development. Their guidance can provide critical insights and strategic direction, which are invaluable for any business leader looking to thrive in today's competitive environment,” she added.
