4.5 million visitors arrived in the US last month, down 9.7 per cent from March 2024, according to the data published Monday by the International Trade Administration.

In a worst-case scenario, it has been estimated that the hit this year from reduced travel and boycotts of US goods could total 0.3 per cent of gross domestic product, amounting to almost $90 billion (€79 billion).

It has been speculated that many potential visitors are reconsidering trips to the US amid increased hostility at the border, as well as rising geopolitical frictions and global economic uncertainty.

Earlier this month, Irish people travelling to the US were warned to delete any social media comments criticising Donald Trump to avoid detention.

A Sunday Times piece detailed how American border officials are increasingly scrutinising traveller’s devices, prompting advice to anyone who may have been critical of President Trump online.

So, has Trump's presidency turned you off visiting the States? Let us know by taking our poll!
