Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald has confirmed the mother of Harvey Morrison Sherratt could run for the party in the upcoming by-election.
Nine-year-old Harvey Morrison Sherratt died after years of waiting for scoliosis spinal surgery.
His mother Gillian Sherratt's name is in the ring as a possible candidate for Sinn Féin in May's by-election in Dublin Central.
McDonald was speaking at the Open Community Boxing Session for the Save the Strand Pitch campaign in Dublin's North East Inner City.
"Gillian is here this morning to support the community here along with others. Janice Boylan is here as well one of our local councillors," she said.
"We're here to support this camapign to maintain this pitch and yes, Gillian's hat is in the ring, and the party processes are underway."
