Met Éireann has issued status yellow rain warnings following thunderstorm warnings between Wednesday and Thursday.

All of Leinster, Cavan, Donegal, Monaghan, Leitrim, Roscommon, Sligo, and Waterford are currently under status yellow rain warnings.

Cavan, Donegal, Monaghan, Leitrim, Roscommon, and Sligo will be under the yellow rain warning until 9pm on Thursday, while Leinster and Waterford's warning will expire at 6pm.

During their yellow rain warnings, these areas can expect heavy rain with a chance of isolated thunderstorms.

Met Éireann warned there may be localised flooding, poor visibility, and difficult travelling conditions.

The UK Met Office also have a yellow rain warning in place for all of Northern Ireland from 6am until 9pm on Thursday.

Nationally, there will be further outbreaks of heavy rain through the afternoon over many parts of the country, with some localised flooding.

While it is drier over parts of the southwest and west, there will be scattered showers, some being heavy. There is a chance of a few isolated thunderstorms too.

The rain will slowly clear northwards during Thursday evening, with a mix of drier brighter spells and scattered showers following, but the rain will linger in Ulster until nightfall.

It will be a humid day with some mist and fog, especially in the south, and with maximum temperatures of 16 to 21 degrees in light or moderate southeast winds.

Friday will be mixed, with showery rain set to clear to the north early in the morning.

It will then be a bright day with a mix of sunshine and scattered showers, with some being heavy.

Met Éireann forecasts a few thundery downpours to develop in parts of the south, southwest and west.

Highest temperatures will range between 17 to 22 degrees with mostly moderate southwest winds, backing southerly.
