A MUSICAL staged by Coláiste Aindriú in Bagenalstown had the entire student population singing, dancing, acting and generally living their best lives recently when they staged Take a chance on me.

Based on the musical Mama Mia, which features songs by Abba, Coláiste Aindriú’s version saw the action transferred from the heady Greek islands to the windswept Arran Islands! And with only 140 students in the school, students from every year had important roles to play in it – from the first years to the sixth years through to some Spanish students who are attending the school.

The students put a huge amount of work into the play

The setting for the musical was the Arran Islands, not the Greek ones!

There was some great talent on stage that night!

“It was well adapted so it really worked,” said school principal Sarah Kennedy. “We’re only a small school so every year had their part to play in it. It was a whole school project which involved everyone, from the woodwork to the art departments.”

The wonderful choreography, which played such a big part in the musical, was arranged by Robyn Curran of Dance Republic, while retired teacher and student favourite Máire Lee came back to the school to help out the three teachers, Amy Williamson, Jacqueline McGuill and Colin Hynes, who were the main driving forces behind the production.

“The place was buzzing with excitement when the musical was on, and still is, even now. It was a wonderful opportunity to showcase the talents that our students have. We’re very proud of them all,” said Ms Kennedy.
