CARLOW’S Keeva Delaney has made her mark on the international stage by securing third place at the Lions Club’s European Young Ambassador final at the Europa Forum in Bordeaux recently. Keeva, who is a student at Presentation College, Carlow, has been actively fundraising for many years for Cliona’s Foundation.

Cliona’s Foundation is a national charity based in Limerick that provides financial assistance directly to parents of children with life-limiting or chronic, complex care needs across Ireland to help with the non-medical expenses related to caring for their child.

Daughter of Eric and Maurita Delaney, Keeva was mentored by Padraig Ó Ceallaigh, Carlow Lions Club co-ordinator of the Young Ambassador competition, at the national and European stages of the event.

An amazing young person with boundless generosity and creativity, Keeva’s progression in the Lions Club’s Young Ambassador competition began when she was nominated by Presentation College, Carlow, to represent the school in the competition organised by Carlow Lions Club in October 2023. Her outstanding performance in the local competition led her to represent Carlow Lions Club at the District 133 (all-Ireland) final in January, where she emerged victorious once again.

This impressive win opened the door for Keeva to represent Ireland at the prestigious European final in Bordeaux last month.

Competing against talented young ambassadors from across Europe, Keeva showcased her skills and dedication, ultimately securing an impressive third place. Her incredible journey reflects her hard work, dedication and commitment to making a difference.

“Her achievement has garnered immense pride and admiration from the members of Carlow Lions Club and the wider community, showcasing the talent and potential of young leaders from Carlow,” said Eoin Kehoe, PRO of Carlow Lions Club.

“Keeva’s success not only highlights her personal accomplishments but also brings recognition to her school and local community. Her journey serves as an inspiration to her peers and highlights the importance of youth leadership and ambition. Congratulations to Keeva on her remarkable achievement,” he added.

In 2018, aged just 11, Keeva wrote and illustrated a children’s book called The Dolls’ Complaints that raised over €100,000 for the charity. In 2022, along with her family she played a role in the development of a soft toy called Rory Owl, which generated €80,000.
