Killeshin woman launches online platform SwapSkills to help people save money

The SwapSkills platform.

KRISTRINA Carey from Killeshin has just launched SwapSkills, an online platform where, instead of paying for services, people can exchange one service for another.

“It might be something as amazing as creating a website or cleaning a bathroom or something as simple as cooking a warm meal for a neighbour,” said Kristrina. “The purpose of it is not so much to buy or sell anything but to connect people.” The platform is free to use and to participate people create a profile saying the service or services they can offer. Once someone has created their profile, they can then approach other users who are offering services that they are interested in to organise a skill swap.

Kristina said that she was inspired to build the platform after taking part in a house swap programme last summer, a programme where people swap their homes to have free accommodation for a holiday.

“We did it and it was one of the most amazing experiences. We made friends through the process and we saved money,” Kristina said. “I thought to myself, this could work on a small scale as well.”
