Hospice benefits from Barrow Valley Art Group’s exhibition

BARROW Valley Art Group held its annual exhibition of paintings in Cobden Hall at Carlow College recently, in association with Co Carlow Hospice. Running from Saturday to Thursday, 25-30 October, the exhibition saw 19 artists presenting work across a variety of media.
The exhibition was officially opened by Glór Cheatharlach’s Bríde de Róiste. Admission on the night was €5, with all proceeds going to Co Carlow Hospice.
The group also ran a raffle in aid of the hospice; the main prize on offer was an original painting by Scottish-born artist Jock Nichols, which was done while giving a plein air class to the Barrow Valley group in Shankill Castle, Carlow. Other prizes included a Kenwood Chefette donated by Sean Swan of Swan’s Electrical Expert and a gift voucher donated by Liam Geoghegan of Arthur’s SuperValu, Sandhills.
Barrow Valley Art Group was one of the first art groups of its kind in the country when it was formed 52 years ago. The group meets once a month for seven months of the year and hosts workshops with prominent artists from different art schools.
