More than 680 drivers have been detected for speeding offences during the first 24 hours of a Garda Roads Policing Operation throughout the Easter Bank Holiday Weekend.

Drivers are being urged to keep themselves and others safe over the weekend. Additionally, nearly 90 drivers were detected holding a mobile phone or not wearing a seatbelt.

Gardaí reminded motorists to always drive within the speed limit, wear a seatbelt and never use a mobile phone when driving. They further noted walking home or cycling under the influence of alcohol or drugs can also put you and other road users at risk. Cyclists and pedestrians should stay visible and observe their surroundings at all times.

An Garda Síochána has said every member on-duty this long weekend will be out conducting road traffic enforcement activity. They will be placing a particular emphasis on detecting those driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. To date, a total of 21 people were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

The operation will conclude at 7:00am on Tuesday 7th April 2026.
