Free programme encourages local groups to look to the future of the Blackstairs area

Groups are welcome to attend this free Heritage Keepers workshop
PROTECTING and enhancing the local heritage is the purpose of an exciting free programme open to local groups in Myshall NS and Community Hall.
The Blackstairs Heritage Keepers Programme will be carried out over one weekend, Saturday 31 August from 10am to 4pm and Sunday 1 September from 10am to 4pm, with lunch provided on both days and delivered by the Burrenbeo Trust. Heritage Keepers is a free programme for communities that will enable them to work together as a group to explore the built, natural and cultural heritage of their local place and then plan a funded action to enhance their place.
The ultimate goal of Heritage Keepers (HK) is community stewardship or community-led conservation. The workshop will include and introduce for participants to the HK approach and to consider the layers of your place, what you like or dislike about your place and the local assets that exist. Culture and the past will investigate what life was like in our place in the past, the legacy left by our ancestors, the stories and folklore, monuments and buildings. Biodiversity and land use will look to identify the changes in land use and local environments. The future will involve considering our places as they currently are and looking ahead. Initial ideas for potential actions are discussed and a framework for moving them forward will be shared. Planning for action will finalise local action plans and how to engage the wider community in Heritage Keepers. If your group wants to take part, email scasey@carlowcoco.ie.
The workshops will have several other groups present at the same time from different parts of the Blackstairs. The workshops are interactive and you will build towards identifying a local heritage action project. The action can be something big or small, but it will have to be completed within six weeks of programme completion. Once the action has been decided, the group can apply for funding of up to €1,000, and up to €350 to complete a local field trip.
