Easter weather to be cold and stormy as Storm Dave passes over Carlow

The chances of an Easter picnic this weekend look slim as Storm Dave passes with wind and rain over Carlow.
Met Éireann have issued a yellow wind weather warning for County Carlow and the rest of the country from 2pm on Saturday until 2am on Sunday. It says southerly winds, veering southwesterly, will become very strong and gusty through the day. These winds may cause difficult travelling conditions, including fallen branches or trees. Drivers should anticipate strong gusts and give extra space to pedestrians and cyclists.
There will be outbreaks of rain and drizzle on Saturday morning, and heavier and more persistent rain in the afternoon with spot flooding possible. Highest temperatures will range between 9 to 12 degrees.
However, early forecasts show a possibility of sunny spells across the country on Sunday. Met Éireann predicts a bright and breezy day with sunny spells and scattered showers. Some of the showers may be of hail or sleet early in the day on higher ground. It will feel cool, however, with temperatures of just 7 to 10 degrees, with moderate to fresh westerly winds easing in the evening.
The National Severe Weather and Flooding Coordination Group convened a meeting on Thursday afternoon of Local Authorities, Met Éireann, relevant Government departments, state agencies and utility providers to ensure they are prepared for any developments during Storm Dave. Local Authorities and other stakeholders will be active and responding in the affected areas where needed.
Those in or travelling to coastal areas are warned that wave overtopping, and flooding in low-lying and exposed coastal areas at high tide times is possible on Saturday. The public is advised to stay away from coastal edges, harbours, piers and low-lying promenades during high tide in these areas.
The public can stay updated via Met Éireann’s website, app and social media channels.
