Criminal damage and vehicle break-ins in Co Carlow

Carlow Garda Station

GARDAÍ are investigating a series of incidents of criminal damage and vehicle break-ins that occurred across Co Carlow over the weekend.

On the night of Friday 17 April, two cars were damaged in the Tullow area in what appeared to be attempts to break into the vehicles. The incidents occurred at around 8pm, affecting a car in Pairc Mhuire and a second car in Hillbrook Estate. In the Pairc Mhuire incident, the owner of the vehicle went outside upon hearing a disturbance and observed a male leaving the scene.

On the night of Saturday 18 April into Sunday 19 April, a further two incidents were reported. A broken upstairs window was reported at a house in Bagenalstown, while in Leighlinbridge a car was reported to have been broken into. No damage was caused to the vehicle, indicating that it had been left unlocked. The car had been searched and a pair of glasses was taken.

Further reports described a man seen walking around in the early hours of the morning attempting to open car doors.

Gardaí do not believe the incidents are connected to those in Tullow the previous night, noting that the man seen in Leighlinbridge did not attempt to force vehicles open, in contrast to the damage caused in Tullow.

Residents are advised to ensure that their cars are locked and to report any suspicious activity to Carlow Garda Station.
