A CARLOW woman has been fined €300 and disqualified from driving for four years by Carlow District Court on charges relating to driving without insurance and using a mobile phone while driving.

Orla Doran, Maple Road, Rivercourt, Carlow, failed to appear before Judge Geraldine Carthy at Carlow District Court on 10 September, where she faced charges arising from an incident on O’Brien Road, Carlow town, on 13 November 2024.

The court heard that Garda Miller observed the 30-year-old’s vehicle driving through red traffic lights on the date in question. When the garda pulled up beside the car, he noted that the driver was holding a mobile phone in her right hand.

A subsequent check of the Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) system in the patrol car revealed that insurance for Ms Doran’s vehicle had been cancelled on 12 August 2024. The court was told that the defendant gave no explanation for why this was the case.

The court heard that Ms Doran has two previous convictions for motoring offences.

Judge Carthy, noting the non-appearance of Ms Doran, convicted and fined her €300 and disqualified her from driving for four years.
