Staff member stole from The Range

The Range, Carlow
A STAFF member of The Range household store in Carlow last week received a suspended sentence after she pleaded guilty to 13 charges of theft when she appeared before the local district court.
Anne Taylor, 170 Pollerton Road, Carlow had pleaded guilty at an earlier court sitting to stealing from her employer at The Range, Four Lakes Retail Park, Carlow on various dates last summer.
Judge Geraldine Carthy had adjourned sentencing for preparation of a probation report and last week Ms Taylor (56) was back before her for finalisation of the case.
Solicitor John O’Sullivan told Judge Carthy that it was a positive report, that they were first-time offences and that Ms Taylor apologised for her actions. He also said that she had repaid some money to The Range, but Judge Carthy noted that there were no receipts in court as proof.
She also noted that a bench warrant had to be executed in October to bring the defendant to court and that she had to consider the effect of Ms Taylor’s actions on her employer.
She then sentenced Ms Taylor to nine months’ imprisonment, which she suspended in full for 18 months. She also ordered the defendant to engage with the Probation Service and to pay a donation of €500 into the court poor box.
