A GRAIGUECULLEN man was last week sentenced to six months’ imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to breaking into his local GAA clubhouse and stealing alcohol and cash.

Dylan Lawlor, 54 Chestnut Drive, Fruithill Manor, Graiguecullen pleaded guilty to the burglary of Graiguecullen GAA Clubhouse on 6 May last year and to causing criminal damage to the property. He also pleaded guilty to stealing three bottles of alcohol and a sum of cash from the clubhouse.

Sgt Peter Smyth told the court that Mr Lawlor (20) was identified by gardaí on CCTV footage and that several cars were damaged during the same incident. He added that the defendant had six previous convictions, including for burglary, theft and criminal damage, and that he was currently in custody.

Eamonn O’Moore BL told Judge Geraldine Carthy that it was Mr Lawlor’s first time in prison and that he was “doing well, using the gym and making use of the facilities”.

Judge Carthy noted that a bench warrant had to be executed for Mr Lawlor and that he had previous convictions for the same offences.

She then sentenced him to six months’ imprisonment, which she backdated to 25 March, which was when he was put in custody.
