Motorist drove wrong way down one-way street

A MOTORIST who drove the wrong way down a one-way street subsequently tested positive for alcohol and was brought before Carlow District Court on a drink-driving charge. Martin Stokes, 2 Brown Street, Carlow pleaded guilty to drink-driving at Brown Street on 27 April 2023.
Garda Bernard Graham told the court that when he saw 68-year-old Mr Stokes driving the wrong way down the one-way street, he stopped him and got a strong smell of alcohol. A subsequent blood test showed 133mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood, with the maximum legal limit allowed being 50mg of blood.
Judge Geraldine Carthy banned Mr Stokes from driving for two years and fined him €400.
