Man refused bail after firearms, ammunition and replica grenade discovered in house near Baltinglass

An Garda Siochána

A MAN in his 30s was charged last week in connection with the discovery of a number of firearms and other items by gardaí at an address near Baltinglass on Monday 4 May 2026.

The man was brought to Bray District Court on Wednesday where he was charged while a woman in her late 20s who was initially arrested was released without charge while a file is being prepared by the DPP. Reporting restrictions were imposed in Bray District Court so the defendant, who was refused bail, can’t be named. As part of ongoing investigations, gardaí from Baltinglass and Bray, supported by the Armed Support Unit (ASU), conducted a search at a residential property near Baltinglass in County Wicklow last Monday, 4 May.

A firearm and ammunition were among the items discovered by gardaí

During the search, gardaí recovered a number of firearms, including two semi automatic pistols, along with ammunition and a replica grenade. The Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service (EODS) attended the scene. A cordon was put in place for a period of time but the area has since been declared safe. Two people —a male in his 30s and a female in her late 20s—were arrested at the scene. Both are currently detained at a garda station in Wicklow under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, 1939. All firearms will be subject to further technical and ballistic analysis. Investigations are ongoing and further updates will follow.
