Man admits to having cocaine for sale or supply

An Garda Siochana

A CARLOW town man appeared before the local district court last week on charges in connection with possessing cocaine. Daniel Deane, Burrin Manor, Carlow pleaded guilty to having a quantity of cocaine for sale or supply, and to simply possessing the drug after he was stopped by searched by gardaí on Beech Road, Carlow on 7 September 2023.

Sergeant James Kearney told the court that Detective Garda Ian Roche was on duty when he spotted two men acting suspiciously. He said that when Garda Roche approached them, one of them tried to flee on a scooter but the garda pursued him and, when he searched him, he found three bags of cocaine, worth €240.

The court heard that Mr Deane (46) admitted to having the drug for sale and that he had one previous conviction for possession before that.

Judge Geraldine Carthy said that the offence of possessing drugs for sale or supply was “very serious” and ordered a probation report be prepared. She adjourned the matter until 10 December.
