A MAN was served with a book of evidence in Carlow District Court last week and was sent forward to the next sitting of Carlow Circuit Court to faces charges of serious assault and strangulation.

Paul Rowland of no fixed abode was charged with two counts of assault causing harm and one count of intentionally strangling or suffocating a woman at an address in Graiguecullen on 29 January.

Sergeant Hud Kelly told Judge Peter White that 35-year-old Mr Rowland was in custody with consent to bail and that the next sitting of Carlow Circuit Court begins on 20 May.

Judge White then put Mr Rowland on an alibi warning, meaning that he is to inform the prosecution within two weeks of his court date if he’s going to rely on an alibi.

He then sent the defendant forward to appear before the circuit court next month.
