A MOTORIST from Killeshin has been fined €300 for driving a vehicle with a bald tyre in Carlow town. Jack Thomas Slattery (27), Quakers Hill, Killeshin, Carlow was convicted of the road traffic offence at Carlow District Court on Wednesday 14 January.

The court heard that on 12 April 2025 at Bridge Street, Carlow, Garda Whelan stopped a car driven by Mr Slattery. On inspection, the garda observed that the nearside front tyre was “excessively worn” and in “an unroadworthy condition”.

A fixed-charge notice was issued to the defendant but was not paid.

Solicitor Joe Farrell, who entered a guilty plea on behalf of his client in his absence, told the court that Mr Slattery was “down the country working” but was anxious to get the matter rectified and wanted to apologise to the court.

The court heard that the defendant had no previous convictions.

Judge Elizabeth Healy convicted and fined Mr Slattery €300, giving him two months to pay.
