Heroin and cannabis were found in his home

Carlow Courthouse
A MAN was convicted in his absence in Carlow District Court after he failed to answer a charge of possessing heroin and cannabis for sale or supply in Tullow.
Roger Markiwicz, Stone Cottage, Castlemore, Tullow was convicted of possessing the drugs for the purpose of sale or supply at that address when the house was searched on 29 March 2020.
Detective Garda Ian Roche told the court that when he searched the defendant’s house on that date, he found eight bags of heroin along with six deals of cannabis in the kitchen along with weighing scales and plastic bags.
He said that he knew Mr Markiwicz (32) and that when he put it to him about the drugs being wrapped in deal-sized packages, he replied that they were for his personal use and that he had separated them out in deal sizes so that he wouldn’t use too much at any one time.
Garda Roche said that when the drugs were analysed there was €488 worth of cannabis and €210 worth of heroin.
Judge Geraldine Carthy heard that Mr Markiwicz had 145 previous convictions, including seven for drug-related offences. A bench warrant was issued for his arrest for sentencing.
