Hacketstown woman sent forward to circuit court

Some of the offences relate to the alleged use of false instruments at SuperValu in Hacketstown

A HACKETSTOWN woman was last week served with a book of evidence in connection with 33 charges, including theft and forgery, and was sent forward to appear before the current sitting of Carlow Circuit Court.

The book of evidence was served against Amanda Doyle, Ballybrack, Borkhillmore, Hacketstown.

Ms Doyle faces 11 charges of theft, 11 charges of forgery and 11 charges of using a false instrument.

The charges arise from Ms Doyle allegedly stealing cheques from a person in Raheengraney, Clonegal and of using false instruments ‒ that is, the cheques ‒ in Byrne’s SuperValu in Hacketstown and O’Reilly’s service station, Hacketstown on various dates between July and September last year.

The book was served on Ms Doyle (39) by investigating garda detective Laura Kavanagh.

Judge Geraldine Carthy gave the defendant an alibi warning, meaning that she must inform the prosecution if she is to rely on an alibi in court.

The case was before Carlow District Court before earlier this year, but Judge Geraldine Carthy refused jurisdiction on the basis that the case was too serious to be dealt with at district court level and sent the case back to the director of public prosecution’s office.

Under new directions, Ms Doyle is now going forward to the current sitting of the local circuit court.
