File sent to DPP following betting shop robberies

A file is being prepared for the director of public prosecutions

A TEENAGER has been arrested as part of the investigation into robberies at two Carlow town betting shops recently.

Superintendent Anthony Farrell told The Nationalist that an arrest had been made following the incidents on 22 August and 1 September.

“A juvenile was arrested under the Offences Against the State Act and brought to Carlow Garda Station. In the presence of his mother, he was detained and interviewed,” said Supt Farrell.

Staff at a premises on the Tullow Road were threatened with what is believed to have been a firearm in the 1 September incident, with a small amount of cash taken from the premises. No injuries were sustained. This incident followed a separate one on 22 August, when an armed assailant entered another betting office on the Tullow Road just after 9pm. Again, a sum of money was taken and there were no injuries.

The teenager was released and a file is being prepared for the director of public prosecutions.
