A 47-YEAR-OLD man was fined €300 at Carlow District Court for being intoxicated to the extent he was unable to speak or stand unassisted at a bus station in the town. Dmytro Beikun of Pontoon Bridge Hotel, Pontoon, Castlebar, Co Mayo, was before Judge Geraldine Carthy charged with a public order offence contrary to section 4 of the .
The court heard that on 2 May last at 7.50pm gardaí received a report about a highly-intoxicated male at Hanover bus station in Carlow town. When gardaí arrived at the scene, they found the defendant in a highly-inebriated state, unable to speak or stand without assistance.
The court was told Mr Beikun had two previous convictions, both relating to public intoxication and dealt with by way of fines.
Judge Carthy convicted the defendant and ordered him to pay a fine of €300 within 90 days.
