A DRIVER who had 32 previous convictions was imprisoned for four months and banned from driving for eight years when he appeared before Carlow District Court last week. John Cash, The Laurels, Carlow pleaded guilty to the charge arising from a road traffic accident in Co Carlow on 16 March this year.
Sergeant Peter Smyth told the court that gardaí asked the defendant to produce his insurance certificate, which he failed to do. He also said that Mr Cash had 32 previous convictions, with the last one being in 2016.
Solicitor Jill Griffin said that Mr Cash (33) is the father of three children, that he is not currently driving and that he’s been offered work in the construction industry.
Judge Geraldine Carthy noted the number of previous convictions that Mr Cash had and that this was his fifth conviction for not having insurance. She said the case merited a custodial sentence and imprisoned Mr Cash for four months, while also banning him from driving for eight years.
