A CARLOW woman who stole cleaning products from a local shop has been ordered to carry out community service.
Kathleen Breslin entered a guilty plea to theft at Carlow District Court.
The court heard that on 6 May 2025 at HomeSavers on Tullow Road, Carlow, a woman entered the store and removed cleaning products without paying. The items were not recovered but CCTV footage identified Ms Breslin as the culprit.
Inspector Tom Jones told the court that the cleaning products were of an unknown value but that the value of the theft was low.
The court heard that Ms Breslin (40) with an address at The Laurels, Tullow Road, Carlow had three previous convictions. Her most recent conviction was for possession of drugs in 2021, while her most recent theft conviction was recorded in 2010 before Portlaoise District Court.
In mitigation, defence solicitor Joe Farrell told the court that Ms Breslin is a full-time carer for two children aged four and nine and was “struggling to make ends meet and took a foolish risk, as she says herself”.
Mr Farrell said his client had brought €20 to court as compensation.
Judge Geraldine Carthy ordered Ms Breslin to carry out community service and directed that the €20 be made into a cheque to be sent to the injured party.
