A DEFENDANT was served with two separate books of evidence last week at Carlow District Court in connection with the alleged burglary of Eire Óg clubhouse and assaulting a person at Bagenalstown Train Station.
William McCarthy, 5 Springfield Park, Carlow was charged with the burglary of Eire Óg clubhouse, Carlow on 8 August 2023 and with assaulting someone, causing them harm, at Bagenalstown Train Station, Bagenalstown on 14 September 2024.
Judge Geraldine Carthy put Mr McCarthy on an alibi warning, meaning that he has to inform the prosecution if he is to rely on an alibi, while solicitor Chris Hogan asked for legal aid to be extended to a junior counsel, which Judge Carthy granted.
She then remanded Mr McCarthy on continuing bail until the next sitting of Carlow Circuit Court in July.
