A WOMAN received a nine-month suspended sentence for possession of drugs and possession of a scissors and screwdriver at a hearing of Carlow District Court recently. Leona Kehoe (45), 210 O’Hanrahan Avenue, Carlow was found in possession of drugs on 19 March 2024 at Carpenters Way, Carlow and was subsequently found with a scissors and screwdriver on 23 February 2026 at St Killian’s Crescent, Carlow.

Solicitor Joe Farrell, representing Ms Kehoe, asked Judge Geraldine Carthy to give his client credit for engaging with the probation officer “wholeheartedly”.

Judge Carthy heard that the defendant has 32 previous convictions, including two for sale or supply of drugs and six for possession of drugs. The probation officer said she was at a moderate risk of reoffending and said they would work with her if the court deemed a community service order suitable.

Mr Farrell said his client “does have something to offer, she’s pleasant to deal with” and that she “accepts full responsibility for her offending behaviour”. Garda Moulton confirmed that Ms Kehoe was not on his radar.

Judge Carthy sentenced Ms Kehoe to nine months in prison, suspended in full for 12 months, and directed her to engage with the probation service.

Ms Kehoe repeatedly thanked the judge as she signed her bond and left the courtroom.
